Digby Water Street
A charming Bay of Fundy harbour town and home of the Wharf Rat Rally
Water Street forms the vibrant heart of Digby, a picturesque harbour town perched on the shores of the Annapolis Basin where the Bay of Fundy's legendary tides shape daily life. This camera overlooks the streetscape that connects the historic downtown to the working waterfront, where fishing boats unload their catch and the famous Digby scallop fleet—the largest inshore scallop fleet in the world—ties up after harvesting the bay's prized Digby scallops. The town's deep-water wharf has served as a maritime hub for centuries, today welcoming everything from fishing vessels to the ferry that connects Nova Scotia to New Brunswick.
Every Labour Day weekend, the rumble of engines transforms this quiet fishing town into Atlantic Canada's largest motorcycle gathering. The Wharf Rat Rally, founded in 2005 by Alex Joannides and Peter Robertson, began as a small, free gathering of riders and has exploded into a five-day festival attracting over 20,000 motorcycles from across the continent. From Wednesday through Sunday, Water Street pulses with energy as riders cruise the strip, vendors line the sidewalks, and live music fills the air. The rally's unique charm lies in its waterfront setting—where else can you watch stunt riders perform while the Bay of Fundy's tides rise and fall in the background?
Beyond the rally, Digby offers year-round appeal as a gateway to the Bay of Fundy's natural wonders. Whale watching tours depart from the wharf, while the surrounding Fundy coastline beckons hikers and nature enthusiasts. The town's restaurants serve up the freshest seafood you'll find anywhere—the Digby scallop, sweet and tender from the cold Fundy waters, is a delicacy worth the journey alone. Whether watching the fishing boats head out at dawn, enjoying the rally's festivities, or simply soaking in a spectacular Fundy sunset, Water Street delivers an authentic taste of Maritime life.
