Experience Cape Breton's wild coastline and local charm

Cape BretonAccommodationsActivitiesBeaches

Meat Cove is a remote fishing village perched on the northernmost tip of Cape Breton Island, where the rugged Cape Breton Highlands meet the vast Atlantic Ocean. The village's curious name dates back to early settlers who used this area as a hunting ground for dressing game. Today, this tiny community of Scottish descent continues its deep-rooted traditions, with most residents making their living from fishing and welcoming visitors to one of Nova Scotia's most dramatic landscapes.

The MacLellan family has called Meat Cove home for eight generations, and their campground offers an authentic Cape Breton experience unlike anywhere else. Perched on coastal cliffs with sweeping ocean views, the site serves as a gateway to some of the island's best hiking trails, including paths that wind through old-growth forests and along breathtaking headlands. Whether you're watching fishing boats head out at dawn, spotting whales offshore, or simply taking in the raw beauty of Canada's eastern edge, Meat Cove delivers an unforgettable Maritime adventure.
