Old Town Lunenburg was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Settled in 1753 by the British, but populated primarily by the European Foreign Protestants, the well-preserved streetscapes feature an excellent example of classic Colonial grid pattern design. Each year Lunenburg welcomes thousands of visitors, attracted by spectacular architecture, the immediately recognizable and well-photographed working waterfront, and the sense of living history that abounds. The recently rebuilt iconic Bluenose II, replica of the famed fishing/racing schooner Bluenose, homeports here. A culture that balances respect for the past, appreciation for the present, and hope for the future makes this an exceptional community in which to live, work and visit. |
